Suck it, spammers
One last note on the spam thing: it took me awhile, but I finally did notice that all of the spam comments I was getting were for one post that was from last April. So I spent a little more time last night and in between rounds of Bejeweled on Facebook, I made it so I can now turn comments off for a post. I have now turned comments off for exactly one post, and am no longer getting 2+ emails an hour notifying me of spammy comments. Hurrah! They so don't care! But I do!

Sometimes, I still take pictures

Theo tries to be very sneaky. Mostly, he is not.

This is one of my favorite plants in the garden. I can't remember what it's called, so I usually call it the dinosaur plant.

As a very amateur gardener, I sometimes don't pick things when they're ready to be eaten. But if I did, I'd never know that broccoli turned into these sweet little yellow flowers.

Spam. Ugh.
For all zero of you who this may affect: I have started requiring approval for comments. This means that when you post a comment, it won't show on the site until I've reviewed it. Not to worry, I have no intention of disallowing comments I merely don't like. However, as I also have no intention of advertising Viagra or whatever websites my friends in Russia are hoping I'll link to, I've had to take this measure. For a long time, just having my comments in a separate window that requires JavaScript to pop up was enough to keep spam out of them. Well, that and the fact that my comments are custom made, so it's not worth anybody's time to figure out how to spam them.

Alas, all that has changed. I know that the goal of the spammers is to increase search engine rankings by getting links to their websites from as many other sites as possible. I have heard that there are people who make money by actually sitting at their computer, going to websites, and filling in forms with links to these websites. I am also guessing that someone has figured out ways to automate this fairly well. I wonder if I can figure out a way to give those people bird flu.

Since I'm not updating regularly, nobody's commenting anyhow, which means that the burden of accepting comments shouldn't be a problem. If you and I ever pick up where we left off, Internet, I'll probably do something clever where I automatically accept comments based on IP addresses that have already been approved or something like that. I can be clever, if I have to.

100 things, part six
  1. I don't like mornings. I don't like it when other people are cheerful in the morning and can't keep it to themselves. I think everyone should behave in a subdued manner until 10:00 am. Pacific time.
  2. That's partly because, like you, I am a ridiculous person. All people have something of the ridiculous in them, and I love that about humans.
  3. I also really like how spazzy kids are. Like when they have to go to the bathroom really badly and they hold their crotch and dance around like little cartoon people. That cracks me up.
  4. I usually find my job interesting. Although it has its drawbacks (what job doesn't?), it's nice to puzzle out how to make things work all day. Especially when I actually do figure things out. So rewarding!
